About the Program
Pandemic preparedness is clearly on the minds of most health professionals and business stakeholders. Current occupational and environmental health nurse (OHN) involvement ranges from writing business response plans to consultation. Clearly, OHNs need to be frontline players in any employer-related pandemic response plan.

Separating fact from fiction, staying current with reliable pandemic information and grounding response planners is essential. Employee education, disease prevention, disability management, emotional support and possible supply chain interruptions are a few practice-related challenges that need your attention now.

What You Will Learn
After completing this CNE activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key lessons from previous influenza pandemics, SARS and current Avian Influenza events;
  • Share need-to-know critical pandemic information and next steps;
  • Demonstrate internal/interdependencies and resources; and
  • Identify the value of testing pandemic plans.

About the Faculty
Gail Army is QA, Compliance, Business Continuity Program Manager for Intel Massachusetts, Inc. Ms. Army's role as Global OH Team Leader for Business Continuity requires in-depth evaluation of all emerging health issues that would impact core business and occupational health functions.

Ms. Army partners/works with global organizational leaders and Intel’s travel health and safety vendor to plan for and monitor potential pandemic issues. She has developed Avian Flu training materials for site clinic nurses and routinely monitors/shares CDC, WHO and state public health agencies for pandemic updates and contagion/quarantine policies and procedures.
