    About the Program
    In the USA, psychiatric disability is the leading cause of working-age disability. A dramatic rise in compensation from public and private insurance funds has led to widespread requests for psychiatric independent medical evaluations (IME). These medico-legal reports, done in exceptional circumstances, are costly to commission and millions of dollars can be at stake on the outcome. Psych IME reports are comprehensive and filled with jargon, yet they provide the nurse with valuable information. In this webcast, participants will review the kinds of determinations made by forensic psychiatrists, psychologists and neuropsychologists; differentiate between the fitness for duty evaluation and the IME; and examine the components of a psych IME report through review of a sample report.

    What You Will Learn
    Upon completion of this presentation, the learner will be able to:

    • assess the kinds of determinations and recommendations made by forensic psychiatrists, psychologists and neuropsychologists in a  psych IME;
    • differentiate between the fitness for duty evaluation and the IME; and
    • identify the components of a psych IME report using a sample report.
