Pre-Symposium Certificate Programs & Workshops

The pre-Symposium continuing nursing education certificate programs and workshops are not included in the Symposium fee.

Certificate program participants must attend all days. Upon successful completion of the entire program, a certificate will be awarded post-symposium. Three-day programs will offer 18.0 contact hours and the two-day program will provide 12.0 contact hours. |
Pre-Symposium Workshops
In addition to the certificate programs, AAOHN will offer six full-day and 25 half-day pre-symposium workshops on a wide spectrum of topics within the practice of occupational and environmental health and safety. These workshops are open to AAOHN members only.

Symposium Proper

Symposium Proper is open to AAOHN members and non-members. The Symposium fee includes the following:
Concurrent Educational Sessions
34 concurrent sessions are spread over eight time slots in a three-day period (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday). Pre-registration is required.
Annual Business/Recognition Meeting
The AAOHN Annual Business/Recognition Meeting will be held Tuesday morning, April 29, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and will feature presentations from AAOHN President Richard Kowalski and Executive Director Ann Cox.
Catherine Dempsey Lecture
Brad Barton, CSP will present the 2008 Catherine Dempsey Lecture. He is a college honors graduate, NCAA All-American and a 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier who speaks nationally to thousands of business and healthcare professionals. As a prevention specialist for ten years with Weber County Human Services in Ogden, Utah, he introduced innovative ideas that revitalized existing programs and challenged some of the most difficult issues facing his community. In this position Brad learned how real-life illusions can work against people and shows audiences how to overcome self-defeating illusions in the workplace. The Catherine Dempsey Lecture will be presented from 10:30 to 11:30 am, Wednesday, April 30, in Ballroom A-D in the Salt Palace Convention Center.
President’s Forum
The President’s Forum will be held on Wednesday afternoon, April 30, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. AAOHN President Richard Kowalski will meet in an informal discussion venue with members to talk about the vision and actions of AAOHN. President Kowalski will also be available to answer questions on issues of importance to members.
Closing Keynote General Session
This year’s Closing Keynote General Session, "The Five Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die," is presented by John Izzo, PH.D., a critically acclaimed author, speaker, thinker and organizational change agent. The session will be held 3:00-4:00 p.m., Thursday, May 1, in Ballroom A-D in the Salt Palace Convention Center.

Lunch & Learn Sessions
Monday, April 28
Lunch & Learn sessions will be offered on a variety of topics. Pre-registration is required. Lunch is included. These sessions are open to AAOHN members only and are not included in the symposium fee.

Symposium Exhibits
Attendees will have dedicated opportunities in which to meet with vendors without sacrificing valuable classroom time. These events are included in the symposium registration fee.

Poster Sessions
Poster presentations will be placed in Exhibit Hall A in the Salt Palace Convention Center. Presenters will be on hand to meet with attendees on Tuesday, April 29 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Posters will remain in the exhibit hall for viewing until Wednesday, April 30 at 4:00 p.m.
| An individual learner, choosing to attend all pre-symposium, lunch & learn and concurrent educational sessions will earn 34.2 CNE contact hours. |
Accreditation
AAOHN is an accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
AAOHN is additionally approved as a provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing (#CEP9283) and the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (#LSBN3).
Accredited status as a provider refers only to continuing nursing education activities and does not imply AAOHN or ANCCCOA endorsement of any commercial products.
Credits for certified case managers (CCM) are also awarded for all courses.
