Welcome to Salt Lake City! We’re confident that attendees of the AAOHN 2008 Symposium & Expo will come to love Salt Lake City. Our streets are safe and clean, the 11,000’ mountain peaks to the east are capped with snow, the people are friendly, and spring is in the air. Join us for some of the sites and sounds that will give you a better experience into our great city. You’ll see why the world loved us during the 2002 Olympics. In fact, we’ve selected a variety of tours designed to give you a good feel for the area. There’s so much to see and so much to experience! Please look through the tours listed below, and feel free to call us if you have any questions. We look forward to your visit!

Available by Appointment
Find Your Roots By appointment - any day (1.5 hours) $55

If you’re somewhat experienced in genealogy, and you’ve been stuck on a certain line, we can help you get past that dead end (no pun intended). We’ll send you a form and ask you to fill out as much information as you do have, then we’ll get it back from you and give it to our professional genealogist. She’ll set up a 1.5 hour-long appointment with you (call our office and schedule an appointment at your convenience) in the world’s largest genealogy library – and she’ll show you what she found and how she found it. You’ll also get tips on how to continue your research once you return home.

Utah Olympic Park, Park City and Shopping 9AM – 3PM (6 hours) $50
Guests on this tour will travel from the Salt Lake valley on I-80 to Park City, with a first stop at the Utah Olympic Park. The "UOP" was home to many of the jumping events during the 2002 Winter Olympics, as well as the bobsled/luge/skeleton runs. Park docents will board our bus and take us to the top of each of the venues and explain the various sports, which are still practiced here. Hearts will thump, and we’ll "oooh and ahhh" at the thought of flying down the 120 m jump in run at 60 mph, or pulling up to 4g’s on the bobsled run. We’ll also tour the Olympic museum on site. Back on the bus, for a quick trip into the intriguing town of Park City, we will enjoy lunch on our own at one of many local restaurants on Main Street. After lunch, we will have time to browse this charming mining town on Historic Main Street, which is lined with art galleries, and quaint shops. Then, get in the mood for some brand-name bargain shopping at Park City Factory Outlet Mall! Guests will receive special coupon books full of wonderful discounts at the dozens of stores at the Mall. We’ll also be greeted by a special docent who will give each guest a map of all the stores and a special (oversized) shopping bag so that we can haul our deals back to SLC and compare our finds!

Historic City Tour 9AM – 2PM (5 hours) $20
The tour begins with an orientation of restaurants and shopping in downtown Salt Lake City. We’ll drive through the newest and nicest open-air shopping mall (The Gateway), and point out the Olympic fountain and the old Union Pacific Depot. We’ll pass the Energy Solutions Arena, the home the NBA Utah Jazz., and then we’ll drive around the Temple Square block, giving a description of each of the buildings on the block. From the bus, we’ll see the Tabernacle, the Mormon Temple, the Beehive House, and the Lion House – the latter two are city-founder Brigham Young’s beautifully restored homes. We’ll drive up Capitol Hill to the recently renovated Capitol building, where we’ll disembark and explore the city’s crowning jewel overlooking the Salt Lake Valley. Back on the bus, we’ll drive past the elegant mansions on South Temple Street. Many of these homes were built with wealth derived from the Park City mining boom of the late 1800’s. One of these homes is the current Governor’s Mansion, which is the largest in the United States. We’ll continue up to the University of Utah’s Rice/Eccles Stadium, site of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and Old Fort Douglas, site of the 2002 Olympic Athlete’s Village. At Pioneer Trail State Park we’ll see This-Is-The-Place Monument which stands as a tribute to explorers, trappers and settlers who first came into this region. Our final stop will be at Trolley Square, century old trolley barns that have been renovated to house some 60 great stores including Pottery Barn, Banana Republic, Brookstone, Hard Rock Café, Restoration Hardware. Besides Hard Rock, there are several other great restaurants on the property where you can grab lunch on your own.

Broadcast & Brunch 8:30AM – 1:30PM (5 hours) $60
Begin Sunday morning in Utah, experiencing one of the most unique opportunities Salt Lake City has to offer with a tour that is always our guests’ favorite! The world-famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs its weekly television and radio broadcast on historic Temple Square every Sunday morning. This one half hour broadcast is a non-denominational event, and dress is "come as you are". The choir is a national treasure, and you certainly have never heard anything like this. Guests who come, ALWAYS walk away uplifted, inspired and teary eyed. It’s simply a magnificent experience that words can’t describe. Following the broadcast, guests will enjoy the drive with narration to LaCaille for a brunch that guests won’t forget. The French-style chateau is surrounded by 22 acres of immaculate gardens, vineyards, and a menagerie of exotic animals. After a delightful brunch, there will be time to stroll the garden paths and enjoy the peace and beauty of this exquisite setting. There’s no rushing this brunch. Each course and each setting is a luscious memory. Bring your camera, what a day this is going to be!

Historic City Tour 4:15PM – 9:15PM (5 hours) $20
See the description of Saturday morning’s tour. This evening tour puts a little different spin on the city, and helps out those who wanted to go on Saturday, but had scheduling conflicts. Dinner on your own and the Trolley Square visit will be inserted in the middle of the tour.

Monday April 28th, 2008
Shaking the Family Tree (Walking Tour for the Beginning Genealogist) 9:30AM – 12:30PM (NO COST – 30 Person Maximum)
Unlike other major cities, the blocks in SLC are a little longer than where most of you come from. In fact, seven blocks in SLC is roughly equal to one mile. We’ll walk a couple of SLC blocks (about .3 miles) to the Family Search Center of the LDS Church (the facility is on the east end of Temple Square), where docents will greet us and do a quick overview of genealogy. Then, each of our guests will get on their own computer (there are only 30 computers, that’s why we limit it), and each will have a chance to look for ancestors. Bring names of deceased relatives, where they lived and when they lived there, and prepare to look at census records to find them. The docents will help you find them. When you’re done, they’ll even tell you how to continue your research at home!

Utah Olympic Park, Park City, and Shopping 3PM – 9PM (6 hours) $50
See the Saturday morning description. We’ll go to the park, ‘til they close at 5PM, then go to Park City for dinner (on your own), and on to the outlet mall.

Pub Crawl 8PM – 1AM (5 hours) $12 (50 persons must sign up)
Who knew that you could get a cocktail in Salt Lake? Get ready to "bar hop" in style! We have selected 4 of the most popular spots in town and we will take you around all night long to "bar hop" at any of these 4 bars and social clubs. We will shuttle everyone in a fancy limo bus and take them to the bar they want to go to first. We will keep the limo circling between the different bars so whenever anyone wants to go check out the next hotspot they don’t have to wait too long. We also call this tour the "Party Favor" because you can go out and have a good time and are assured that you have a safe ride around town and back to the hotel whenever you want.

Post Symposium Tour Moab Mania (3 Days) ($399 pp/double occupancy)
Grab your friends, and join us for an experience that you won’t soon forget. Two National Parks in Utah’s Red Rock country are just a short distance from each other! There are five National Parks in Utah, but our guests never get enough of these two. They are absolutely incredible – and so is the city of Moab, where we’ll stay. Arches has more arches in a concentrated area than any other place on earth. Some of them defy description – and gravity! Canyonlands NP is just as incredible in a different way. Many feel that it’s on par with the Grand Canyon. You’ll also get to see Dead Horse State Park – which some think exceeds the views of Canyonlands. This is the perfect time of year to visit…. Not too hot, and not too cold… JUST RIGHT! Call us for more details, or do some searches on the web for other people’s experiences in these marvelous scenic areas. Since you’re so close, you don’t want to miss these parks! Did we mention shopping? And activities? If won’t run out of things to see & do here! We’ll leave early Friday (9AM) and return Sunday around 9:30PM). Please make your reservations with us by March 30th, so that we can confirm with the hotel. Late reservations are on a space available basis.
