AAOHN > Public Policy > AAOHN in Action > Letter to John Howard, Director of NIOSH offering assistance for tsunami relief effort

January 13, 2004

John Howard, M.D., M.P.H., J.D., LL.M.
Director, NIOSH
Hubert H. Humphrey Bldg.
200 Independence Ave., SW
Room 715H
Washington, DC 20201

Dear John:

The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN) has joined with the many other organizations and millions of private citizens in contributing financial relief to the countries affected by the recent tsunami in the Indian Ocean. The 10,000 occupational and environmental health nurses who comprise AAOHN stand ready to provide any additional professional support to relief efforts.

We share NIOSH’s belief that the health and safety of not only the tsunami victims but also the relief workers in affected regions is a top priority. If our organization can be of assistance in supplying health and safety education materials or information to those working in the area, please notify us and we will respond appropriately.

Our thoughts are with the victims and relief workers who are dealing with this tragedy. Please do not hesitate to contact me at (919) 966-0979 if we can be of service. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Susan A. Randolph, MSN, RN, COHN-S, FAAOHN
President
