AAOHN State Advocacy

State Legislative Coordinator Program

State Legislative Coordinators (SLCs) are member volunteers who serve as the primary point of contact to AAOHN for grassroots advocacy by monitoring legislation and regulations for the purpose of influencing policy affecting the practice of occupational and environmental health nurses, and the health and safety of workers and worker populations.

You can have an effect on policymakers in your state—and AAOHN is here to assist you!

In addition to advocating for the numerous issues that impact occupational and environmental health nursing and worker and worker population health and safety at the federal level, AAOHN actively assists member advocates working on a number of issues at the state level, including:

While many SLCs are appointed by AAOHN chapters, others are members who express an interest in state and/or national public policy issues.

SLCs work with state and local chapters on targeted issues, educate members about the issues and help to mobilize members' grassroots activity.

If you want to become an effective voice for the profession and worker and worker population health and safety in your state, have a state issue you would like AAOHN to know about, or would like more information, please contact AAOHN Executive Director, Ann Cox at Ann@aaohn.org or (800) 241-8014 x117, or AAOHN Director of Professional Affairs, Dean Burgess at Dean@aaohn.org or (800) 241-8014 x104.
