AAOHN's Sixth Annual Occupational Health Nursing Week to be Celebrated April 19-25, 2009.
AAOHN is proud to sponsor National Occupational Health Nursing Week, a national recognition of occupational and environmental health nurses (OHNs), which will be celebrated April 19-25, 2009.
The goal in establishing an official recognition week for OHNs is to raise awareness of the important role OHNs play in furthering the health and safety of the millions of people in our nation’s communities and workforce and to assist employees, employers and the general public in gaining a better understanding of how OHNs contribute to workers’ well-being.
The April dates commemorate the inception of the first professional association for occupational and environmental health nurses on April 19, 1942, when 300 nurses from 16 states founded the American Association of Industrial Nurses (AAIN), the predecessor to AAOHN.
