Program Details for Mentees

Program Highlights

  • $75 nominal application fee
  • One year program (July-June) -  AAOHN Scholars Mentorship Program Class of 2027 will run from July 2026 through June 2027
  • Scholars paired with a mentor from AAOHN’s membership (ideally AAOHN Fellow)
  • Scholars must present poster at Annual Conference
  • Scholars and mentors receive recognition at Annual Conference
  • Program networking event/reception held during the Annual Conference
  • Scholars introduced to the Exhibit Hall during the Annual Conference
  • Scholars eligible to receive discounted annual conference registration
  • Scholars eligible for invitation to submit an article to WH&S Journal

Qualifications

Mentee applicants must be:

  • Current AAOHN Member in good standing
  • Practicing RN or related healthcare professional for at least 3 years
  • Practicing OEHN for 5 years or less
  • From any clinical background or practice area
  • Interested and invested in personal professional development to pursue an OEHN career, as evidenced by enrollment in or recent completion of (within the last year):
    • an ERC-supported program as a Masters or Doctorate candidate 
    • an accredited Masters or Doctorate program
    • an accredited BSN program
    • a BSN to MSN bridge program

  • Complete the "What Fruit Are You" Questionnaire
  • Submit CV/Resume
  • Submit personal letter of interest (max. 2000 words) that addresses the following points:
    • What are your primary and secondary goals for personal professional development that you would like this program to fulfill?
    • Where do you see your OEHN career going in the near future?
    • Describe your interest in the OHN field and your experience thus far.
    • What area of work/primary practice area are you most interested in pursuing?
    • If you participated in a mentorship program previously, what was it for and what did you like or dislike?
    • In which academic program are you currently enrolled?
    • Are you also currently employed?
      • If yes, what is your current job title and responsibilities?
    • What attracted you to an occupational health degree program?
    • What do you hope to gain from your role as a mentee?
    • What information would you like to share with your mentor?
    • All mentees are expected to conclude the program with a poster presentation at the AAOHN National Conference in 2027. Are you able to commit to developing and presenting a poster at the AAOHN National Conference in 2027?
    • Mentees and mentors are expected to meet one-on-one on a monthly basis to develop their conference poster presentation and support a reciprocal relationship of mutual mentoring, whereby mentees gain insights, advice, and guidance from more experienced professionals, helping them navigate their careers, build skills, and make informed decisions, and mentors build new or refresh current skills and foster a collaborative learning environment. This program is only open to AAOHN members in good standing. An application fee of $75 is required from mentees to be considered complete and eligible for review. Mentors and mentees will be notified of their application status by May 25, 2026.  Applications must be completed no later than 11:59 p.m. ET May 11, 2026 and submitted via the online portal.
