AAOHN Foundation

THE AAOHN FOUNDATION

The AAOHN Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, was established in 1997 by the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses to empower occupational and environmental health nurses to improve worker health, well-being, and safety, while enhancing community health by preventing workplace illnesses and injuries and creating healthier places to live and work. We advance this mission of driving innovation and excellence in occupational and environmental health nursing by securing charitable resources to fund grants and scholarships that support clinical excellence through:

  • Academic advancement
  • Professional education and development
  • Leadership development
  • Research advancement

Workers are our most valuable resource, and their health and safety are essential to a strong economy, thriving businesses, and the well-being of our communities. Yet workplace injuries and illnesses still exact a tremendous toll — both in human suffering and economic cost. Significant progress has been made in improving worker protections and creating healthier, safer work environments. Thanks to the dedication of occupational health nurses and others committed to workplace health and safety, injuries and illnesses have declined. However, the AAOHN Foundation is confident that, with our continued efforts, we can further advance the health and safety of workers — and achieve even greater impact.

Purpose

The Foundation’s purpose and vision are to ensure occupational health nurses find the critical current and future answers they need. We secure vital charitable resources to fund professional development, scholarships, and research grants focused on improving the health and safety of the nation’s workforce.

As both a vital source of funds and a stimulus for substantive work, the Foundation supports fundraising activities aimed at boldly expanding resources for occupational health nurses. Our vision is to be recognized as the premier national foundation advancing the profession of occupational and environmental health nursing through charitable funding that fosters ongoing professional and leadership development, promotes innovation and excellence through scientific research, and positively impacts the health, safety, and well-being of populations and communities.
