AAOHN offers Continuing Education Certificate Programs for occupational and environmental health nurses (OHNs) and other health care professionals, who want to improve or maintain their professional competency and/or prepare for new professional opportunities. AAOHN's certificate programs are specifically designed to address the variety of emerging workforce, workplace and community needs, incorporating adult learning principles to build and advance knowledge and skills, increase professional competence and build expertise. To be awarded a certificate and continuing nursing education (CNE) contact hours, participants must successfully complete the course of study.

The Safety Management Certificate Program is an in-depth three-day seminar designed to educate participants on the role of the safety manager and review the material for the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (ABOHN) Safety Management Certification Examination. The seminar offers 18.0 CNE contact hours.

The ABOHN Safety Management (SM) examination is a sub-specialty exam for OHNs who currently hold the designation as Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or Certified Occupational Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S). The ABOHN SM credential recognizes certified occupational health nurseswho have expanded their practice to include safety management. Additionally, the SM credential may provide a career path for OHNs who plan to obtain the Certified Safety Professional® (CSP®) credential.

Course content and materials are based on ABOHN’s blueprint of the examinations. Mathematics, physics, industrial hygiene, engineering and environmental concepts and problems will be a primary focus, including practice with the scientific calculator. A comprehensive study manual with more than 300 sample questions and applicable study materials is included.

Please note: participants are required to bring a scientific calculator. *
