JANUARY 2022 NEWSLETTER
A Message From the Board
As we begin a new year, it is hard not to look back and reflect on 2021, which presented us with both challenges and opportunities. For many of us, the first month of 2022, January, has also presented us with the same. During these times I am reminded of a quote I recently read; “You can get excited about the future. The past won’t mind.” – Hillary DePiano. The future offers us potential and opportunities yet to be discovered.
AAOHN is a professional association dedicated to advancing the health, safety, and productivity of domestic and global workforces by providing education, research, public policy, and practice resources for occupational and environmental health nurses. These professionals are the largest group of health care providers serving the worksite.
AAOHN is a source of potential for Occupational Health Nurses offering many opportunities.
First and foremost, the benefits and opportunities our membership in the organization offers are quite extensive and include:
- Membership in local, state, and national chapters
- Networking with your peers and fellow Occupational Health professionals. Trust me, you will build long-lasting relationships, and friendships, throughout the organization.
- Discounts on AAOHN and Occupational Health Nursing materials.
- A resource for your practice through the Ask It Forum composed of AAOHN Fellows, or the Open Discussion Forum.
- Free resources to drive your education via live webinars; access to a digital library of critical practice and professional offerings; and free copies of AAOHN standards, competencies, and position statements.
- Opportunities to advance your career through the AAOHN Career Center with job searches and recruiting.
- Scholarships and grants are available through the AAOHN foundation for professional education and research.
- Ability to assess and expand your core knowledge through the AAOHN’s Fundamental of Occupational Environmental Health Nursing: AAOHN Core Curriculum 4th Edition and online Core Curriculum Study Guide. Also, with the AAOHN Code of Ethics, a framework for decision-making and evaluation of nursing actions for occupational and environmental health nurses.
Don’t miss out on all the opportunities and benefits of belonging to AAOHN and all the benefits that come with it. Make sure your membership is up to date and renewed.
Respectfully,
Deborah A. Waymack, BSN, RN, COHN/CM
Secretary
AAOHN Board of Directors
Transitioning the National Conference to Virtual
The AAOHN Board of Directors recently met to review the latest health and safety guidelines, member, presenter and exhibitor feedback, and to discuss the 2022 National Conference scheduled for March 28-30 in Pittsburgh.
Given the current surge in COVID-19 cases, AAOHN made the difficult decision to transition the AAOHN National Conference to a fully virtual event to take place June 8-9, 2022. The safety of our members, as well as the workplace communities they serve, is our top priority, and the board believes this action is needed to protect the health of the occupational health nursing community.
We appreciate your understanding that this situation is one that is beyond everyone’s control. We look forward to welcoming you to the virtual conference this June!
Register for the Annual Business Meeting
The Annual Business Meeting will take place virtually on February 25 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The virtual format prior to the National Conference allows AAOHN to add more educational programming that increases contact hours, increases attendance for those members who are unable to attend the conference and offers the option to record the business meeting for download on-demand.
